And I bear a list! Sort of. A short list.

1. I will not be getting married in California, apparently. But I wasn't going to anyway, or would have already done it. Because fuck it, I'm already married, and I know this whether the government recognises it or not.

(Besides, I still delight a bit in getting to tell fundamentalists that I'm married, but only in the religious sense. They love that.)

2. My addiction, that is So You Think You Can Dance, has started up again! In case you missed it, there were two men doing ballroom together at an audition and it weirded the judges out. The judges took a knock in the respect department, there. There are times when dance works best from the entwined energies of male and female, it's a sort of yin-yang thing. But don't pretend that men and women actually ARE the energy as presented. And other times there are dances that are most beautiful when done by only women or only men. These two were good together. They went back and forth being leader or follower in this give-and-take of masculine energy that was pretty compelling. But the judges were 'weirded out' by that, and said things like 'one of you should have been the girl'. Look, that's stupid. That's missing the point entirely. Dancing isn't about boys and girls, we're just what the rhythm dresses up as.

3. There wasn't going to be a 3, but I feel a new need to point out that my cat is chewing on my hair.

Stole this from [livejournal.com profile] thaursir. :)

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 56.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next seven sentences in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

Calvin nodded, thoughtfully. "Funny is right. Funny peculiar. Not only the way he talked, either. The whole thing smells."

"Come on." Meg pulled at them.

That was amazing, and inspiring, and wonderful.

Welcome aboard, Mr President.

Being at work today is really just kind of a formality.

I forgot to post the happy thing yesterday. I spent most of Saturday afternoon RPing and then went off to the dinner theatre to die spectacularly and fabulously for a lot of people, and it went very well. It's the kind of thing where the energy really changes every night depending on the crowd; we had a Christmas party last night of people who got really into the whole murder mystery thing. It was great.

Today's happy thing, Christmas carols at church, pancakes, and a snuggly cat. :)

[livejournal.com profile] ashkitty tagged me for this:

1. Post about something that made you happy today even if it's just a small thing.

2. Do this every day for a week without fail.

3. Tag 8 of your friends to do the same.

I'm not tagging people because I am not sure I have 8 LJ friends, least of all ones who are active. Do it if you want to. :)

Last night I came home from a very long and exhausting day at work and flopped down onto the couch. [livejournal.com profile] ryanashke brought me a cup of tea, and the cat gave me this look like 'Where the hell have you been, human?' and jumped up onto my lap and purred.

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] ashkitty. I like this meme. :) Hers was sort of conflicted about love and wanting someone who's bad for you, I think. Mine is apparently two people still together after a crazy kind of life and things keep going wrong, or at least weird, but they've got each other. Or at least that's how I'm reading my random collection of shuffled song lyrics.

Instructions: Put your itunes collection on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. post the poem that results. the first line of the twenty-first is the title.

I was thinking that I might fly today

this is our life
next craze next phase
two horses trails within the grass
it's been one week since you looked at me
close your eyes
it started out as a feeling
if I don't stand out like a star among moons
after all these implements
he was a boy who lived underneath the stairs
you've been with me a year to the day
early one morning the sun was shining
Tim Finnegan lived in Walkin Street
when the outside temperature rises
raining in my heart
there's a ship a sort-of sinking in the harbor
now every cheap hood strikes a bargain with the world
in the back of a car on a road in the dark
secure yourself to heaven, hold on tight the night has come
across the evening sky
I am holding half an acre

Which of my RP characters do you associate me with the most? Why?

Random thing of the day: my cat is awesome and I love her.

I was listening to the radio yesterday at work and heard this story about two university campuses in California with varying ways of protesting the rule that men who've ever had gay sex at any point in their lives are barred from being blood donors.

This is one of those things that I don't spend a lot of time thinking about, just because I have a lot going on in my life already and if they don't want my blood, it's their loss. But since it came up, I will go on the record as saying that I think it's VERY STUPID.

I get why they made it. Contaminated blood supplies were one of the boogeymen of the 80s. Plenty of rules are made in overreaction to traumatic events. Then, when they've served their purpose, we get rid of them.

So why hasn't this one been gotten rid of? Because there are apparently still people that think gay = HIV, and they're freaking everywhere. As young gay men of the current century, we have all pretty much figured out what our risk factors are, and that getting tested for things is a necessary part of life--what was that line back in the 90s in Reality Bites? "The free AIDS clinic: the rite of passage for our generation." You know what? Promiscuity is the risk factor here, not homosexuality.

It just frustrates me, even though barring some huge natural disaster (more likely in my part of the world than industrial accident or terrorist attack) the blood supply around here will probably be fine. Because it's STUPID. I've been in a monogamous relationship with the same person for almost ten years, and we've both been thoroughly checked out for everything. And I'm AB negative and not afraid of needles.

And I grumbled about this a bit on the bus ride home from work, and then I got home and got distracted by So You Think You Can Dance, which both awakens my latent Broadway fantasies and turns me into kind of a queen. I probably shouldn't watch, but I just can't resist. It's too early for me to pick a favorite, but I do like looking at them.

What the hell? The awesome popper quit So You Think You Can Dance! He was so talented, he just wasn't having fun. That sucks.

This show totally awakens my dormant Broadway fantasies.

Weekend plans, in no particular order:

1. New computer
2. Wipe Vista and install XP on new computer
3. INDIANA JONES
4. Massive family barbecue thing
5. Torchwood season 2
6. Attempt to RP around the very loud Faery headvoice
7. Buy beer

...may as well get started from the bottom up, huh?
faithinchris: (tracks)
Oh my God, but I am tired. Numbingly tired. Work is in the home stretch of busy season, which I will celebrate the end of by heading off to Orcas Island with [livejournal.com profile] ryanashke for our anniversary. Which is less than a week away. If I survive that long. I'm so freaking tired I've been tagging at work to keep my brain awake, which is sort of the opposite of how things usually go (it's not that my work objects terribly to tagging, though I'm not taking a chance on the smutty things, just that I don't have the mental capacity to get everything done within the allotted timespan if I try it).

Which reminds me--next week I'm going out of town. While I'm planning on buying a laptop in the near future, since Ryan's reacquainted himself with a Sims addiction and really we need a new computer anyway, I'm not really all that interested on spending my anniversary vacation RPing online instead of enjoying the company of my gorgeous husband. So will need to finish threads up early in the week if possible, or let them sit for several days.

This is assuming, of course, I have the energy by that point to do anything but sleep.

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] moonlight69!! Hope you have fun plans!

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] just_ruth, for the gifty! Mmmm, cake. ;)

Had a lovely birthday, complete with the knowledge that I'm pretty much where I feel I should be right now in life. Went to Anthony's Home Port for dinner, and am now very full on steak and prawns, berry cobbler, and somewhat overpriced wine.

I got Torchwood s1 for my birthday so now I can see what you're all on about all the time (and just who [livejournal.com profile] hiseromenos hangs out with and who [livejournal.com profile] dagantu is falling for...).

But bed for now.
